The Symbols Important to Reiki
This is a collection of symbols. And so is this. Any written language is actually using a combination of different symbols: letters. Letters symbolize different sounds (or lack of sounds) in their respective language. But symbols go beyond the sounds that make up words.
People use symbols for a variety of different reasons the world over. From the circular peace sign to the dove of peace, from the universally understood red cross for first aid to the anatomically incorrect heart to symbolize love. These just begin to scratch the surface of utilized symbols.
While the above four examples are pretty well known around the world, some symbols are more specialized, more secreted. This is the case for the traditional symbols of Reiki.
Taking a course on Reiki, such as the one offered by Chikara-Reiki-Do, can help you have a fuller understanding of the information provided here.
The Important Symbols
Each of these symbols have specific meanings. They are provided to students of Reiki during the three different levels of learning the practice. As a note, these are symbols of positivity. If you try to use them for negative reasons, you will have negative results.
Dai-Koo-Myo
This is the Usui Master Symbol. It is very powerful and can only be properly used by a Reiki Master. This symbol is used to help attune new practitioners of Reiki to its energies. Because of the symbol’s immense power and high rate of vibration, it is said to have the ability to heal a person’s soul. This can be done both to the self and to others.
Cho-Ku-Rei
This symbols has slightly different meanings depending on if you are in an Eastern culture or Western culture. In an Eastern culture, this symbol denotes universal energy.
However, in a Western culture, it is usually a symbol of power. Cho-Ku-Rei can be used to summon energy or a higher power to help you heal faster. By acting as a summoner for these things, this symbol can also be used to boost the ability of the other Reiki symbols.
Sei-Hei-Ki
This symbol represents harmony. This symbol is all about the healing of the mind and emotions. Through these, the symbols can help you deal with substance abuse like with drugs or alcohol, depression, and mental and emotional wounds from the past.
As is fitting with what it represents, this symbol can help to restore harmony and balance within your body.
Hon-Sha-Ze-Sho-Nen
This symbol can represent the Sun or a person’s self, their oneness. Much like the Sun radiates energy to us here on Earth, this symbol is used when a Reiki Master is practicing distance healing.
We do not need to physically touch the Sun in order to feel its energy. Likewise, the person practicing Reiki doesn’t need to touch the person they are healing. This symbol is not bound by time or space, so it can help heal the past, present, and future anywhere around the world.
The Raku
The Raku is the only symbol mentioned here that traces its origins to Tibetan Reiki instead of Usui Reiki. It is included here for the sake of knowledge and because it is used along with the above symbols.
This symbol is usually used at the end of attunement. This is because it works to seal in the Reiki energy coursing through the seven chakras of the human body. By doing this, the Reiki Master helps to ground the student or person they are healing.
Other Symbols
There are additional symbol used during the practicing of Reiki. However, many of these other symbols are kept in secrecy. They are known only to those who have taken the time to learn and understand their power.
Using the Symbols While Practicing Reiki
On their own, the symbol do not have much—or possibly any—power to them. Their true potential is found when they are used in conjunction with Reiki.
These symbols can help practitioners of Reiki channel the energy in the human body in a way that will help them heal others and themselves. They can help tend to each of the seven chakras to ensure that the energy within them has not become blocked.
Conclusion
There are many nuances to Reiki and its associated symbols. Many of these things cannot be explained here because of their depth of meaning. Not all knowledge can be read. Some of it must be experienced. If you are interested in learning how you can experience these nuances, consider taking a course with Chikara-Reiki-Do.
